What is a Photography Release Form?
A Photography Release Form (or model/property release) is a document in which a person gives a photographer or business permission to use images of them — or of their property — for agreed purposes such as marketing, publishing or commercial use. It protects the photographer and the business from later claims over how the images are used.
When you need one
- You photograph people and want to use the images commercially.
- You run events, campaigns or content featuring identifiable individuals.
- You photograph private property for commercial use.
What it should cover
- The subject and the photographer / business.
- The permitted uses of the images.
- Whether use is exclusive and for how long.
- Any payment and a clear grant of rights.
